Golden Milk: Simple recipe for the healthy turmeric drink

The bright yellow turmeric drink “Goldene Milch” is said to have healing effects.

Here you can find out how to make the golden milk and how healthy it is.

Effect of the Golden Milk

The Golden Milk or “Turmeric Latte” consists of plant milk, turmeric, ginger and a few other ingredients. It not only tastes wonderful and warms the body, but is also said to be incredibly healthy. The perfect drink for the cold season!

In Ayurvedic teachings, golden milk has been considered a healing, stimulating and cleansing drink for centuries. Turmeric or goldenseal is valued as a versatile remedy in Indian and Chinese medicine. In combination with the other ingredients, it is said, the milk unfolds its full effect.

However, this has not been scientifically proven. All the positive effects are not proven by studies, but results of observations in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. Accordingly, the following should apply to the golden milk:

Golden milk is said to have a strong anti-inflammatory effect and protect against joint diseases. It is even said to be able to alleviate symptoms caused by chronic inflammation such as osteoarthritis.

In addition, turmeric milk is said to strengthen the immune system and prevent various diseases. This is especially important during the cold season.

The drink is said to have a strong antioxidant effect and thus prevent premature aging of the skin.

Golden milk is said to stimulate liver function and aid the body in digestion and detoxification.

Turmeric milk is also said to have a long-term physical and mental stimulating effect. It is said to protect against Alzheimer’s and help with insomnia.

Quick recipe for the Golden Milk

To prepare the turmeric milk, use high-quality organic ingredients and a plant-based milk without additives.

For a glass of golden milk you need the following ingredients:

300 ml plant milk (e.g. homemade almond milk)
a piece of turmeric (about 2 to 3 cm) or a tablespoon of turmeric powder
a piece of ginger (about 2 cm in size; the more you use, the hotter the drink will be)
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp coconut oil
a pinch of freshly ground nutmeg
Dates or 1 tsp agave syrup for sweetening

Preparation of the Golden Milk

Traditionally, a turmeric paste is first made from the ingredients, which is then stirred into the milk. However, this is more complex and not absolutely necessary. How to do it faster:

Place the ingredients in a blender and blend until you get a fine consistency.
If the consistency is not fine enough, pass the turmeric milk through a fine sieve.
If you want to preserve as many nutrients as possible and prefer a raw Golden Milk, your drink is now ready. If you prefer to drink the milk warm, continue:

Put the milk in a saucepan and boil it briefly.

Let the golden milk simmer on a low heat for two minutes.

If you like, you can then froth the turmeric milk with a milk frother.

If the taste is too unusual for you, you can try using less turmeric and ginger.
