Destinations with pristine beaches are very popular with all globetrotters looking for rest and relaxation. / The 6 best beaches in Myanmar

Unfortunately, you end up far too often at a completely overcrowded strip of sand. But since it is not impossible to find the beach from your imagination, we have listed the six most beautiful beaches in Myanmar for you here.

These Myanmar beaches are a must-see for globetrotters

Most people who have heard of Myanmar (formerly Burma) inevitably think of pagodas and Buddhist temples. It’s also true that the places of worship are almost omnipresent in the East Asian country, especially in the old city of Bagan, but in addition to the impressive landscapes, this exotic place also boasts beaches that will take the breath away of any world traveler.

If you are looking for a charming but uncrowded beach in Myanmar, here are six insider tips that will take you straight to paradise.

Chaung Tha

This beach is the resort for the locals and should be on your bucket list for that reason alone. It doesn’t offer quite as crystal clear water and white sand as other places, but it offers an exciting insight into the customs of the Burmese.

You will look in vain for sun loungers and beach bars based on the European model. The people of Myanmar, on the other hand, love to ride their bikes across the sand or float in the water on an old truck tire. You’ll also find a variety of shops and markets worth visiting before heading out to one of the pristine islands that are close by and have incredible marine life.

Ngapali

If Chaung Tha isn’t quite what you’re looking for, then Ngapali Beach is definitely something for you. Here, white sand stretches for miles alongside turquoise water. There is no better postcard motive than a sunset in this place!

While there is no lack of accommodation options, Ngapali is not a crowded place and you have the opportunity to take secluded walks by the sea or enjoy an almost endless variety of seafood. Even the more active souls who enjoy water sports are in paradise here as Ngapali is one of the best beaches in the country for scuba diving or kayaking.

Ngwe Saung

You’ll have to spend a few hours in the car to get to this dream beach in southwest Myanmar, but it’s worth the journey, I promise! The section also known as “Silver Beach” offers 14 kilometers of white sandy beach that slopes gently into the sea and is almost deserted.

This option differs from Ngapali in that the tourist infrastructures are a bit more limited, so the number of visitors is also lower. A perfect place to relax after long days of sightseeing.

Dawei

This port city in south-eastern Myanmar has paved roads and even lane lines in the middle, while the general impression of this city is overall more neat than other places in Myanmar. Still, Dawei hasn’t quite succumbed to mass tourism and its greatest treasures include two of the best beaches on the Burmese coast: Tizit or Nabule Beach, almost untouched beaches where you can chill out alongside curious Burmese families.

Mergui Archipelago

The Mergui archipelago in front of the city of Myeik is undoubtedly the jewel of the entire country. It consists of more than 800 untouched islands and is the dream come true of the deserted tropical island. Some of the islands no one has ever set foot on!

This area is home to the Moken, a group of 2,000 to 3,000 sea nomads with a unique language and ancient sea culture. Tourists often come here on so-called “live boats”, a type of floating hotel that also serve as a means of transport.

Gwa and Kanthaya

The two coastal villages of Gwa and Kanthaya are nestled in the Bay of Bengal in a pristine environment away from the tourist crowds. The so-called “Pleasant Beach” is located several hours drive from Yangon, but the hardship of the journey is worth it. Here you will find nothing more than a palm-fringed, white-sand beach. The best of the local beaches are on the peninsula south of Gwa.

If this list has made you want to make your own way to paradise in Myanmar, then go for it! Soon these authentic oases may also be among the crowded tourist spots.
