Achensee tips, Tyrol’s largest lake is so beautiful… / Achensee Travel Guide: Achensee Tips

What better way to spend your holiday than on a beautiful lake? The Achensee is my absolute favorite. It is perfect for an extended summer holiday with the whole family. But you will see in my Achensee tips that you can also experience a lot in winter. Be sure to read on!

General facts about Lake Achensee

The Achensee is located in Austria and is the largest lake in Tyrol. One more reason to pay a visit to the beautiful lake. The setting around the lake couldn’t be more spectacular. In the middle of a breathtaking mountain landscape in the Alps, Lake Achensee welcomes you with great sports and relaxation options.

About a 50-minute drive from Lake Achensee is the cute city of Innsbruck, which you should definitely explore after a relaxing day at the lake. Located at an impressive 929 meters, the Achensee also promises dream water from fresh mountain water, which is even of drinking water quality. Well, what more could you ask for?

Directions to the Achensee

Another important point in my Achensee tips is how to get to the Achensee. An unforgettable bathing stay at the Achensee is not worthwhile as a short day trip and should ideally be combined with a holiday in Austria.

This gives you the opportunity to explore the entire area around Lake Achensee without having to drive home at the end of the day. Of course, the easiest way is to drive to Lake Achensee. There are also parking spaces available at the lake. However, if you want to avoid the frenzy on the Autobahn, you can also switch to the train.

It takes around 4 hours from Munich and around 2.5 hours from Innsbruck to get to the Achenkirch Schwarzenau am Achensee stop. From here you would have to walk less than 1 kilometer to the lake and you can jump straight into the water.

Bathing season at the Achensee

From May it’s time to put on your swimming trunks and jump into the water. So nothing stands in the way of limitless bathing fun. At 929 meters above sea level, one might assume that the water is relatively cold, but that is not the case in summer. With a pleasant water temperature of 20-22 degrees, you can enjoy paddling in the lake.

At the bathing beaches you will find, among other things, changing facilities, cafés and children’s playgrounds. Outside of the bathing beaches, you can also rent pedal boats and paddle a bit on the lake. Depending on the weather and sunshine, the bathing season at Lake Achensee extends into September or even October.

Activities at the Achensee

The good thing about the Achensee is that you get your money’s worth at any time of the year and that you are offered a variety of leisure activities at the Achensee.

Especially in summer, the Achensee blossoms into a true holiday paradise. The fantastic hiking trails, the interplay of mountains and lake, the tranquility and the relaxation factor attract numerous tourists every year, and not without reason. Do you also like being a little more active on holiday and climbing from one mountain to the next? Or to ride a bike? Then let’s go to the Achensee.

You can also try your hand at water sports and test the waves while surfing or paddleboarding. Remember to keep your balance. Would you like to test the underwater world? No problem, just go diving. Diving schools have also settled at the Achensee.

Anyone who is open to tingling in their stomachs can look forward to paragliding and seeing everything from a bird’s eye view. If you want it to be a little more comfortable, you’re guaranteed to go golfing. But we also took care of the little guests. With the children’s program, children aged 4-10 can take part in pony rides, mini golf, rock climbing or farm visits.

But that is not enough. Because in winter, the Achensee with its surrounding mountain peaks promises perfect conditions for skiing, cross-country skiing and leisurely winter hikes. There are 4 ski areas and 2 practice facilities available for all slope hunters. Those who are still a little wobbly on skis can also attend the ski school.

Away from the slopes you can test the 5 toboggan runs and enjoy the cool wind on your face. A horse-drawn sleigh ride through the winter wonderland is a little more animalistic.

Wellness lovers should also put Lake Achensee on their to-do list. One grandiose wellness hotel follows the next. Pamper yourself with a soothing massage, relax in the whirlpool or in the sauna.
